Gratification is the positive emotional reaction of happiness in response to a fulfillment of a desire.  We live for gratification in Joyceland.  Let us repeat:  we find gratification to be very good.  One of our strongest desires is a delicious night of sleep.  Last night we fell asleep to the sound of rain–not because it was raining outside, but because of our sleep sound machine.  Spike (also known as Mr. Joyceland) has been snoring A LOT lately.  At times the snoring is like a kitten’s soft purr.  At other times the snoring sounds like a wolf devouring its prey.  This persistent problem does not allow us to get our required amount of beauty rest.  Beauty rest is one thing that keeps us in Joyceland.  So we give lots of snoring by one’s bed partner only one out of four stars.  In order to remedy the situation, we have considered setting up our own private boudoir in the guest room:

Some favorite Joyceland ladies have done this and it has worked out marvelously for them.  But because of our immediate need for sleep gratification we turned, instead, to our friend the sound machine.  We selected LOUD ‘rain’, left our galoshes at the foot of the bed, put on our shower cap, and fell into a deep and dreamy sleep.

It worked!  Spike and his snorts, grunts, howls, and puffs of air were drowned out by the indoor rainstorm.  Hallelujah!  The only downside was that we did get up to tinkle a little more than usual and we dreamt that we were caught in a monsoon over the Arabian Sea, but that we can live with.

Joyce Quote of the Week:

“My house is in desperate need of cleaning, but I was invited to go to the State Fair with girlfriends.  So, I looked myself in the mirror and said, ‘Joyce!!!  For God’s sake get your priorities in order and get yourself to the Fair.”

Joyceland Quote of the Week

This one comes from our dear friend Lucy.  Lucy has a favorite aunt named Joyce who is always j-o-y-o-u-s (and when you say Joyce veerrrry sloooowwwllly it sounds a lot like joyous).  So, when Lucy gets together with her brothers they’ll say, “How are ya?”  And if they’re feeling good they respond very slowly, “Jo-y-ce!  Jo-y-ce!!”  Try it yourself and see how good it makes you feel.

Send us your stories!  We love to hear how you live in Joyceland!  xo
