Did you check out the Golden Globes last night? Rain and big umbrellas greeted the lovelies as they walked the red carpet. Kinda makes them like one of us when their hairdos are slumping, huh? Puddles everywhere. We shared with you the other week that Joyce just adored Nine and wants to take Guido for her lover. And that beautiful little movie Up won the 2010 Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature . . .
Since we have another funeral to attend this week, we thought we’d spend a few minutes on this sweet film that will lift anyone’s spirits. The musical score is just plain pretty:
Here are a few interesting Up movie secrets:
- The fantasy of a flying house came from director Peter Docter’s wish to escape life when it becomes irritating or difficult.
- The character of Carl was primarily based on Spencer Tracy and Walter Matthau–sweet, yet grumpy old men.
- Docter said the movie was inspired by Casablanca and A Christmas Carol which are both “resurrection” stories about men who lose something and then find a renewed purpose.
- Doctor hoped audiences would take away this point from the film:
“Basically, the message of the film is that the real adventure of life is the relationship we have with other people, and it’s so easy to lose sight of the things we have and the people that are around us until they’re gone. More often than not, I don’t really realize how lucky I was to have known someone until they’re either moved or passed away. So, if you can kind of wake up a little bit and go, “Wow, I’ve got some really cool stuff around me every day,” then that’s what the movie’s about.“
The fashion police are always out during the awards season. So, who were we wearing? Our Victoria’s Secret white terry cloth robe. (And don’t let anyone kid you—white terry cloth robes are always dirty. We have to wash the robe at least once a day. And that goes against everything we stand for.) Okay, back to who we were wearing. White ankle socks by Columbia. Silver Birkenstocks. No makeup. Five carat faux diamond studs–for that added touch of glamour. Glasses because we’re nearsighted and the television isn’t near enough. Hair tied up in a knot. We did shave our legs, however. And we put on some Pure Grace body lotion. We watched the awards in a prone position. Red wine close by. We ate an orange for a little boost of C. And we were alone because Spike (to hell with Alejandro—he is Spike) wanted to watch sports in another room. So how’s that for feeling Hollywood? Things can only go UP from here……….
