Well, the achievements of ladies around the globe have been pouring in since our confession of Joyce’s celebrity status as an Alice in Dairyland Princess. Dexie’s mama was voted most popular in 1948 and she was the first girl to wear pom pons on her roller skates. Sheila can whistle with her toes. We can do a spot on monkey call that’ll make you feel like you’re vacationing in the jungles of Costa Rica. These types of unique talents are often overlooked in today’s fast paced and superficial world. But here in Joyceland, we value anything that you can do. What are your crowning achievements? Do tell because we’d love to make you Queen for a Day.
Have you heard of the Ross sisters? MollyJoyce turned us on to them and they are somethin’. The Ross Sisters were a trio of female sibling dancers–Aggie Ross, Elmira Ross, and Maggie Ross. (Joyce’s mama, our grandmama, was named Elmira so we feel a special affinity to any and all things Myra.)
The Ross sisters could sing three-part harmony and do acrobatics and contortionism. They were popular in the ’40’s and with boys. Boys like contortionists. If you’re having trouble touching your toes these days, the Ross sisters are sure to impress. If you like potato salad, you’ll love their song. And Joyce thinks they’ll leave you inspired to develop your own special little something!
